Week of
September 13th
This week the Tennessee
Republican Party puts the spotlight on State House District
60 candidate Jim Gotto!
Government
needs to be out of the way of entrepreneurs so they can
create jobs. I will continue to support our small, family-owned
businesses who are the heart and soul of Tennessee's economy.
- Jim Gotto
WHO IS JIM
GOTTO?
Jim grew up in Nashville and earned his degree in electrical
engineering from Vanderbilt University and spent 32 years
with South Central Bell and Bellsouth. Jim has spent the
last seven years serving on the Metro Council and the last
three on the Metro Planning Commission. He and Carol, his
wife of 33 years, attend Madison Church of Christ where
he serves as an elder.
"My roots in Nashville run deep. I grew up right here
in this district. I love the city I call home and would
never want to live anywhere else."
WHERE & WHY
IS JIM RUNNING?
Jim has lived in the areas of Donelson, Hermitage, Una,
and Antioch his entire life. During his tenure as Metro
Councilman, he distinguished himself as a member who was
never afraid to take on the status quo in Nashville. He
publicly spoke out against the abuse of eminent domain and
was a joint sponsor of the bill that ultimately resulted
in an independent Metro Internal Auditor, not one that reports
to the Mayor's office.
Jim is seeking to take his brand of common-sense conservatism
to the state legislature. "I am concerned about the
size of state government. There are unsustainable levels
of borrowing and spending going on at the federal, state,
and local levels. As a result, we are mortgaging the future
of our children and grandchildren. I'm prepared to make
the difficult cuts that are necessary and will fight to
ensure the state lives within its means. I will work tirelessly
to make state government more accessible, effective, and
efficient, to the taxpayer."
Jim is running in House District 60, currently held by
retiring member Ben West. His Democrat opponent, Sam Coleman,
is one of the most liberal members of Nashville's Metro
Council.
WHAT WILL JIM
DO FOR YOU IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE?
While on the council and planning commission, Jim saw first
hand how excessive regulations and red tape at the municipal
level are causing harm to area small businesses. When elected,
he will sponsor legislation to set statewide standards to
help small businesses owners operate in an environment where
they can be successful.
Jim believes that we have a health care crisis in our state,
and that health care decisions are best made by patients
and their doctors, not bureaucrats and politicians. He will
vote to push back against unfunded mandates from Washington
D.C.
Jim is 100 percent pro-life and serves on the board of
directors of a pregnancy crisis center. He is an avid sportsman,
NRA member, and holds a concealed carry permit.
