October 11th
This week the Tennessee
Republican Party puts the spotlight on State House District
65 candidate Billy Spivey!
"As
a conservative that sees the direction our country is headed
in, I know how difficult the next few years will be for
our state. However, I will not back up one inch, reduce
myself to political correctness, or sugar coat issues to
gain favor. I will meet issues head on and do my part to
advance the conservative platform in our state government."
- Billy Spivey
WHO IS BILLY
SPIVEY?
As a husband and father, Billy is aware of the burdens associated
with trying to raise a family in today's economy. As a taxpayer,
he is sensitive to the wasteful spending that has become
commonplace in our government. And as an elected official,
Billy is educated on the issues currently facing our state.
Billy is the former Chairman of the Marshall County Commission
and a veteran of Desert Storm with the 1st Cavalry Division.
Through his military experience, Billy understands what
sacrificing for the greater good truly means.
Billy is married to his wife Kim and is father to six girls
ranging in age from 12-20. He works as Maintenance Superintendent
at Walker Die Casting in Lewisburg and is responsible for
overseeing 50 employees at the company.
WHERE & WHY
IS BILLY RUNNING?
Billy is running in the 65th district. The district is comprised
of all of Marshall and Giles Counties. This is befitting
of Mr. Spivey's background as he was raised on the boundary
line of these two counties. Billy has expressed a simple
reason for running: "To keep spending down, taxes down,
and to limit government involvement in our daily lives."
One way to make our state government more efficient is to
construct committees more representative of the majority
in the House of Representatives. Billy has a keen grasp
of this issue and vows to do what he can to make sure this
change occurs.
Billy is running against incumbent Democrat Eddie Bass
whose family has made millions off of Tennesseans' tax dollars.
Since being elected to the State House, the Bass family
has been awarded $1,623,334.79 in taxpayer dollars for government
contracts to mow grass. While Marshall and Giles Counties
have suffered from record high unemployment rates, the Bass
family has become millionaires.
WHAT WILL BILLY
DO FOR YOU IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE?
You can count on Billy to listen. He understands that listening
is the key to learning. He stated, "A sitting State
Senator and friend told me that to be effective in Nashville,
you must listen more than talk. That makes me a good fit.
I will be all-ears as I serve the people of the 65th District.
I know that listening is a key to being a servant-leader
and I strive to be just that. Elected officials are there
to serve and somehow many have lost sight of that."
Billy is excited about becoming a member of the General
Assembly and will undoubtedly do a great job for the electorate
in his district.
