GOP Update - 5/25/07

After extensive discussions between the Senate Education Committee Chairman Jamie Woodson (R-Knoxville); Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge); House Leaders; and Administration officials, a plan to overhaul the state’s K-12 education funding formula known as the Basic Education Program (BEP) is moving forward.

House Bill 99 authorizes LEAs to work with local postsecondary institutions to establish dual credit programs that will allow students to earn college credit while in high school.

Yokley Continues to Ignore Illegal Immigration Problem in Tennessee

Votes Against Bill Requiring Proof of I.D. to Vote

(Nashville) - State Representative Eddie Yokley voted against a proposal this week that would have required voters to provide photo identification before voting in elections.  The amendment was designed to stop illegal immigrants and others from casting fraudulent votes. This is the second time in recent weeks Representative Yokley has voted against a bill which addresses the illegal immigration issue.
