TRP Weekly Report - 12/7/07

REMEMBERING THAT FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!  WE SALUTE OUR MILITARY ON PEARL HARBOR DAY!

TRP LEADERSHIP MEETS

The TRP State Executive Committee met on December 1 to approve our budget, discuss the upcoming Presidential Primary (Early voting begins in Tennessee on JANUARY 16) and the delegate selection process, as well as gain perspective on the opportunities in the upcoming election year. What an absolute privilege to serve a great Committee! The time is NOW to organize and mobilize!

SENATOR LAMAR ALEXANDER ELECTED TO LEAD AS SENATE REPUBLICAN CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN…CONGRATULATIONS!

LAWS FOR ME AND LAWS FOR THEE

Democrat Senator Jerry Cooper finally resigned his seat in the legislature after a DUI conviction, facing a federal fraud trial and being levied a fine after stealing $95,000 from his campaign account for personal use. The resignation comes just after the date that would’ve allowed citizens to vote for his successor. According to press accounts, Cooper is petitioning that his $120,000 fine be reduced due to his inability to pay. So, it’s okay to steal if you can’t pay your bills?!

Then we read that Democrat Rep. Rob Briley is requesting an agreement to have his felony and misdemeanor charges “suspended” that could result in an ultimate dismissal. “What charges?” you ask: Evading arrest and vandalism! Remember the incident where a drunken Briley rear-ended the vehicle of a mother, father and their 8-year old child, left the scene being chased for more than 10 minutes by police from DeKalb to Wilson County at speeds reaching 100mph, was arrested at gunpoint while finishing his last sip of Maker’s Mark whiskey, failed a field sobriety test, attempted to kick out the squad car window and called the law enforcement officers “Nazis”. Now, there seems to be an opportunity for the democrat to avoid penalty.

I think average citizens ought to try claiming the “Cooper” or “Briley” defense to see if there’s an automatic exemption from the law.

WATCH DEMOCRATS’ ACTIONS COMPARED TO THEIR WORDS BACK HOME

It is very apparent that Democrats speak about how "conservative" they are when standing in the town square, but cast liberal votes to prevent the Driver’s License test in Tennessee to be administered in English, to prevent requiring a picture identification be presented upon voting, to increase taxes on cigarettes 42 cents per pack (tripling the tax per pack) but reduce the tax on groceries only ½ of 1%, and on and on. Democrats can write legislation and speak about the importance of state laws while drinking and driving (Rep. Rob Briley and Sen. Jerry Cooper), while stealing almost $100,000 in campaign funds (Sen. Jerry Cooper) and while taking cash from a known criminal - (the Tennessee Democrat Party still refuses to return $58,000 it received from Norman Hsu, convicted felon in a $20 million ponzi scheme).

Democrats have frequently been heard to say that they are going to "break with their Party" on this issue or that, but when it comes down to it, they talk conservative and vote liberal. Republicans are the only folks who want an accountable government that allows taxpayers to keep more of their hard-earned money; reject amnesty and support legal immigration and naturalization as citizens of our great country; and support with actions, not just talk, the fight against extremists who would terrorize a teacher, demanding her death, after one of her pupil’s named a teddy bear after Muhammad.

This upcoming year provides the opportunity for the values of Tennesseans to be taken to Nashville, rather than have Democrat politicians say one thing at home and vote another way in office!

LOSING COUNT OF DEMOCRATS’ SHAMEFUL VOTES

Ever heard a Democrat state, "I support the troops, but not the war?" Well, again, mark it down to their philosophy that what they SAY is more important than what they DO!

Of the 12 Appropriations bills needed for our government to function, only 1 has been passed as of this writing. Democrats, however, find plenty of time to repeatedly — and I mean repeatedly — bring up votes that hold hostage the funding for our men and women serving in the military and the needed resources, like food and ammunition. Democrats cater to the anti-war crowd at the price of putting our troops in danger. It is our sovereign duty to support our military that is actively fighting for our liberty. Always remember: we must stand united in victory in the Global War on Terror or risk falling victims to terror in our defeat.
