DEMOCRATS TRUST JUDGES, REPUBLICANS TRUST THE PEOPLE

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Democrat Leadership in the Senate today has tipped their hand to be completely political in their efforts to obstruct the bipartisan vote agreed upon last week regarding SJR 127- the resolution returning the voice of the people on the issue of abortion rather than the courts.

“Democrats seek to confuse a very simple issue: An activist court overturned laws that protected women and the unborn while SJR 127 seeks to return to the people the vote to address the issue of abortion ,” said Robin Smith, Tennessee Republican Party Chairman. “Rather than permitting voters to speak on the issue, Democrats are seeking to put this issue back in the hands of the courts, not at the ballot box.”

Late on Tuesday, Senator Roy Herron put forward a bill with the appearance to appeal to citizens who are outraged that their daughter’s can more easily obtain an abortion with little educational information provided as having their ears pierced at the mall with parental consent and educational information provided about the procedure and follow up care. Democrat Caucus Chairman Senator Joe Haynes continues to release misleading caucus statements that portray support of the unborn after he has expressed his support for public-funded abortions, supported partial birth abortion and has voiced his opposition to parental involvement in an abortion.

“Again, these Democrats place power and politics over the voice of the people. SJR 127 should receive a vote allowing the people to speak,” remarked Robin Smith, Tennessee Republican Party Chairman.
