NAIFEH’S TROOPS ABORT PRO-LIFE LEGISLATION

Talk – and Life – Are Cheap to Faux-Life Democrats

NASHVILLE, TN - Pro-abortion Democrats have once again thwarted the will of the majority of Tennesseans and their legislators on the issue of abortion by aborting legislation designed to put abortion policy in the hands of the people’s legislature instead of a small group of unelected judges.

“Today is a defining moment. The proof is in the consistent record that shows Republicans working diligently for Tennesseans’ values versus the cheap rhetoric of House Democrats who are faux-life rather than pro-life,” said Robin Smith, chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party.

The proposed constitutional amendment killed by statehouse Democrats today would allow the legislature to pass commonsense provisions like informed consent, parental notification and a 48-hour waiting period.

While many Democrat lawmakers claim to be pro-life, and the proposed amendment has the support of a majority of legislators in the state House and Senate, it once again was killed in a committee controlled by House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh, preventing a floor vote.

Several Democrats made speeches Monday night on the House floor claiming to be pro-life, but Tuesday proved their words to be noting more than a facade.

“The poster child for being pro-life in talk but not in action is state Rep. Nathan Vaughn,” said Bill Hobbs, communications director for the Tennessee Republican Party. “On Monday night the Kingsport Democrat claimed to be pro-life and complained that he had not been asked to be a co-sponsor of the pro-life amendment. On Tuesday he didn’t bother to show up to urge the committee to pass the amendment. Rep. Vaughn is pro-life except when it counts.”

500,000 unborn children have been aborted in Tennessee since 1978, according to the state health department.
