TRP Weekly Report - 2/21/08
THANK YOU, CAPITOL CLUB MEMBERS!
Since relaunching the Capitol Club in December, you have responded overwhelmingly!
The greatness of our Tennessee Republican Party is the people who step up and participate with your votes, your time, your voice and your financial investment. THANK YOU!
SUPERDELEGATES ONLY IN THE DEMOCRAT PARTY
The issue of superdelegates is irritating Democrats due to the possibility that 792 “superdelegates” could determine the nominee for their party. Press accounts have recorded that over $900,000 has been contributed to the elected officials who are identified in this elite category. In some cases, elected officials received in excess of $20,000 from Clinton and Obama combined.
The Republican Party has 3 uncommitted delegates per state: the Chairman, the National Committee man and woman. This is due to state bylaws that prevent endorsements to avoid favoritism.
Tennessee Democrats are in rapid-response mode to attempt to cover up the facts; facts that are being discussed by less-than-conservative publications like the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Boston Globe.
The party of the “common man and woman” is no longer the Democrat Party. This is just one more piece of evidence.

BUDGET SHORTFALL…REALLY?
Democrat Governor Phil Bredesen has spoken for weeks about a revenue shortfall in Tennessee that will result in a cut of funding and services. Interesting that words and actions are so perpendicular:
Tennessee currently only meets 5 of 11 criteria for anti-drunk driving laws defined by the National Transportation Safety Board, a deficiency which costs the state $15 million in federal highway dollars - money we must need given Gov. Bredesen’s recent and frequent talk of raising the gas tax to pay for road projects. Republicans in the General Assembly have submitted a package of DUI bills that would rectify this situation and put our state in compliance.
Gov. Bredesen is only pursuing one of these legislative corrections. So, $15 million is not needed in our state? More importantly, legislation to protect innocent citizens from intoxicated drivers is not necessary? Gov. Bredesen recently told the Knoxville News Sentinel that he is focusing on only one DUI bill - even ignoring other recommendations of his own DUI Task Force - because “you have to pick from all the good things available.” And so he has chosen to forego $15 million in much-needed federal highway money and to forego legislation that would make Tennesseans safer.
<>Democrats in both the Tennessee House and Senate have been stone silent with the exception of Frank Buck and Rob Briley about Tennessee taxpayers funding at minimum $8 million to build an underground ballroom and entertainment center at the Governor’s Mansion (watch TNGOP YouTube video). While Tennesseans pay for the upkeep of the War Memorial Auditorium that has been recently refurbished and the Tennessee Tower, a new onetime expense of construction of this ballroom and the continued maintenance, staffing and utilities will reach into our paychecks.
So, when you hear there’s a budget shortfall, just know that Tennessee Democrats just want more of your money to spend. That’s in stark contrast to claims that Democrats what to restore your faith and trust in our government.
DEMOCRAT’S AMERICAN IDOL
We are watching a dangerous development: emotions, platitudes and promises driving the campaign of one who desires to be the Commander-In-Chief of the United States and the next leader of the free world. Barack Obama is attracting a lot of high-energy attention, yet lacks specifics that would identify him as the agent of “change” he portrays himself to be.

It can be guaranteed that the Islamic extremists who monitor our resolve and remain vigilant for opportunities to attack innocent Americans are “hopeful” that Barack Obama will be the next President. Their goal to remove the “filthy bacteria” (according to Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) of Israel off the face of the earth will be much easier with either of these liberal, leftist Democrats/Progressives in the White House.

HOPE AND CHANGE
If you have family members, friends or co-workers falling for the empty-but-rhetorically pretty sounds of Barack Obama’s promise of “change” and talk about “hope,” remind them of the cautionary words of Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist and short story writer Ellen Glasgow, and of British poet Lord Byron:
“All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward.” - Ellen Glasgow
“But what is Hope? Nothing but the paint on the face of Existence; the least touch of truth rubs it off, and then we see what a hollow-cheeked harlot we have got hold of.” – Lord Byron
Barack Obama’s message is one of hoping for ‘change” that – to the extent that he offers more than empty rhetoric – appears to be nothing more than a lurch toward the failed, statist policies of America’s extreme Left.
DEMOCRATS ARE PUTTING AMERICANS IN DANGER
The Democrats in Congress have permitted a vital tool against terrorism to expire - the ability to monitor terrorists’ phone conversations. The day after this surveillance law lapsed because of weak Democrats, guess what showed up with a passenger attempting to board a domestic flight from Tampa?

In the backpack of this same passenger was found “Muhammad in the Bible,” “The Prophet’s Prayer” and “The Noble Qur’an” and the “Qur’an.”

Americans want to believe in their government for our safety and sovereign interests. Democrats continue to prove their inability to place America first.
