REPUBLICANS REJECT INSULT TO WAR HERO
NASHVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Republican Party rejects the label “opportunist” used by Democrat National Committee Chairman Howard Dean in attacking John McCain.
In a release issued out of Washington, D.C., the DNC again shows Americans that Democrats cannot and should not be trusted with our nation’s security and foreign policy decisions.
The release quoted Chairman Howard Dean to refer to McCain as “a blatant opportunist who doesn’t understand the economy and is promising to keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years.” (Democratic National Committee, “Dean: New Ad, But No New Ideas From John McCain,” Press Release, 3/28/08)
“Tennesseans know the sacrifice of war who have family and friends defending our freedoms and security daily,” remarked Robin Smith, Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party. “While our men and women fight for us and for victory, Democrats continue playing politics by refusing funding for armor and ammunitions, halting surveillance of known terrorists, and now labeling a war hero an ‘opportunist.’”
Both Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have pledged to remove troops from Iraq within 90 days of their administration’s control regardless of the impact to Middle East stability, safety or future implications.
