TEMPER TANTRUM
What’s Deplorable Is Democrats’ Plan to Silence Criticism By Claiming It is Racist
NASHVILLE, TN – Are we in for a long, hot summer of temper tantrums from Tennessee Democrats and Barack Obama supporters whining “racism” and “bigotry” every time their likely presidential nominee is the target of a little criticism and dissent?
Judging from the temper tantrum they’re tossing today over our light-hearted video holding Michelle Obama accountable for scripted remarks she made on two separate occasions on the campaign trail on behalf of her husband, the answer is “yes.”
Barack Obama is an inexperienced, un-vetted, far-left Liberal candidate for president on the cusp of receiving the Democrats’ nomination. His words and his record – and the words and records of his surrogates on the campaign trail – will, and should, receive scrutiny.
Yesterday, the Tennessee Republican Party released a web video contrasting scripted remarks made by his wife, Michelle Obama, on the campaign trail in which she – on two separate occasions – declared that “for the first time” in her adult life she was proud of her country.
The web video showed a series of Nashvillians talking about various reasons why they are proud of America. The video did not “attack” or demean Mrs. Obama, it merely contrasted her remarks with the remarks of several average Tennesseans.
The response from the Left: many angry, often foul-mouthed emails, phone calls and web comments declaring the video racist and worse.
The Tennesseee Democrat Party called the video “deplorable” and “grotesque.” We’re guessing they’re hoping most people won’t have seen it and realize that it was just a light-hearted jab.
What is truly deplorable is that Democrats and Obama supporters are hoping to shield Obama and his campaign and its surrogates from almost any criticism, disagreement or dissent by tagging such things as a “distraction,” as “partisanship, and as “racism and “bigotry.”
“Rather than labeling every criticism of Barack Obama as ‘racist,’ and rather than whining about tough talk from their opponents, the Tennessee Democrat Party might want to ask Mrs. Obama to tone down her language,” said Robin Smith, Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party. “They also might want to encourage their party elites to stop accusing fellow Democrats of racism because they didn’t vote for Obama, as became common after Obama’s crushing defeat in the West Virginia primary.”
“Frankly, their over-the-top hysteria about a little video suggests that the Tennessee Democrat Party is panicked by the fact that their likely presidential nominee is so unpopular in Tennessee and so unable to connect with average Tennessee Democrats that he carried just nine of 95 counties,” Smith said.
The Tennessee Republican Party has archives of articles, writings and releases contrasting issues between Democrat and Republican candidates for months. Debate and dialogue based on policy has and will continue to be ongoing.
However, when a candidate and his campaign are pursuing the highest leadership position in the United States of America, that candidate and campaign must answer questions and be accountable for statements made by the candidate and campaign surrogates, even if that surrogate happens to be the candidate’s spouse.
The fact is, Michelle Obama did say at a recent Wisconsin campaign stop, “This is the first time in my adult life that I am proud of America.”
The fact is that, later that day, she repeated the same thought almost verbatim, declaring at a second campaign stop, “This is the first time in my adult life that I am really proud of America.”
The fact is that, on May 4, 2008, Michelle Obama responded to a reporter that she “would like to rip” Bill Clinton’s eyes out, in reference to a Clinton comment on Barack Obama’s policy in Iraq.
