SUPREME COURT’S GUN RIGHTS RULING A WIN FOR LAW-ABIDING GUN OWNERS
Obama’s anti-gun stance at odds with most Tennesseans
NASHVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Republican Party issues the following statement in response to the United States Supreme Court’s ruling today in the landmark Second Amendment case Heller v. DC, upholding the constitutional right of individuals to own guns:
Tennessee Republicans stand for the right of individuals to own and carry guns for self-defense, hunting and other legitimate purposes and believe the United States Supreme Court got it absolutely right today in striking down the District of Columbia’s law forbidding law-abiding citizens from having a weapon in their home for self-protection.
Law abiding Americans have a fundamental constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Tennesseans should be aware that today’s decision is not the end of the battle against liberal efforts to take away our Second Amendment rights.
Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama is on record saying he opposes allowing individuals to possess handguns even in their homes, and leading Tennessee Democrats like House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh routinely kill efforts to allow law-abiding Tennesseans to carry handguns in public places for self protection.
“Sen. Obama and Tennessee Democrats like Jimmy Naifeh are out of touch with most Tennesseans on gun rights,” said Robin Smith, Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party.
