TRP Monthly Review
We are thrilled about our upcoming Statesmen’s Dinner with keynote speaker Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels on Friday, July 15th in Nashville. It will be an evening to rally around our victories from last year while looking ahead to 2012. This week, I happened to be at a meeting with Governor Scott Walker (R-WI), and he discussed the outstanding job Governor Mitch Daniels has done in Indiana on a litany of issues. We look forward to hearing Governor Daniels share his thoughts first hand on the direction of our country. We will also get to hear country music star Mark Wills preview his new song “Looking for America.” I hope you have made plans to join us for what should be a very special night. Although the General Assembly is out of session, some great things have happened this month. On June 15th, Governor Haslam signed into law his charter schools bill which lifts the cap on the number of charter schools allowed in the state and opens enrollment to more students. This was welcome news to many Tennessee parents who desire more high-quality education options for their children.
Also this month, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis released figures which showed that Tennessee ranks 6th in the nation in economic growth. While this should be welcome news to all Tennesseans, Democrats immediately began to gripe about which party gets the credit. Leave it to the Democrats to throw a wet blanket on great news for our state!
Earlier this week, we had anticipated a visit from Vice President Joe Biden who was scheduled to headline a Democrat fundraiser. To welcome Biden to Tennessee, we created this VIDEO. It turns out that Biden had to cancel his Nashville visit since he and President Obama have yet to show leadership on proposing a budget that cuts spending without raising taxes.
Finally, we have posted a new poll question on Facebook- “Have you committed to vote for one particular GOP candidate for President yet?” Share your thoughts HERE.
Thanks again for all that you do, and I hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Chris Devaney
