TNGOP Monthly Review

Dear Friends,

2012 has finally arrived and at the TNGOP we are kicking everything into high gear already. With the start of a new legislative session, the passage of new redistricting maps, and a spirited presidential primary in full swing, it feels like if you blink, you might miss something. The Tennessee Presidential Preference Primary is just around the corner. Election Day is March 6th and early voting begins February 15th.

Last week, President Obama delivered his State of the Union address, but we all know it was really his campaign manifesto; and within that manifesto, it’s clear that he intends to divide our country by class. The president made it clear that he is intent on exploiting division and envy for his own political ambition- that’s the Obama playbook. It’s derived of class warfare, higher taxes, more government regulation and more government red tape.
I know everyone is excited for this election year, and that we are all ready to do our part to make sure we see Republican gains here in Tennessee, as well as defeating President Obama. Thank you for all you do for our Party, and get ready, because it’s going to be a big year. Below is a quick update from the TNGOP and our Republican elected officials.

TNGOP University- While President Obama undoubtedly did well courting young voters in 2008, many of those voters are quickly coming to the realization that they are part of the “debt generation.” The national debt has risen by 40% on President Obama’s watch, an individual share of around $50,000 by the time many college students graduate. College and teenage Republicans across our state have taken notice, and they’re ready to do something about it. We are teaming up with the Tennessee College Republicans to host “TNGOP University” during their state convention. This event is designed to better train and equip young voters to spread our message and elect Republicans at all levels. I hope that you will encourage any young voters, whether in college or high school, to attend this exciting event. You can register for the Tennessee College Republican convention or just TNGOP University HERE.

Believe In Better- On Monday, Governor Haslam presented his State of the State address, outlining his 2012 legislative agenda, before a joint session of the Tennessee General Assembly. The Governor challenged Tennesseans to “believe in better” for our state by charging his administration to focus on the way state government serves taxpayers. The Governor’s budget clearly reflects his priorities, which includes strategic investments, necessary cuts, and savings for the future. His plan includes raising the exemption on the estate tax to lower the tax burden on family farmers and family business owners, lowering the state portion of sales tax on food, and enhancing the “rainy day fund” with a $50 million investment. It’s clear that Governor Haslam and our Republican Leadership have a bold plan to continue to move Tennessee forward. You can read more about the Governor’s legislative agenda and watch the full address HERE.

Thanks for all that you do, and I hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Chris Devaney
Chairman
Tennessee Republican Party
