Let’s make 2009 a year of activity and discussion.
Tuesday, January 13 is a monumental day for Tennessee’s state government. The 106th General Assembly will convene with a Republican majority in both legislative chambers for the first time since 1869 (yep, not a misprint, 1869). The tireless volunteers, candidates, and county parties have yielded the fruits of their labors…Republicans “Took the Hill.”
Please view the opening ceremonies that will be streamed live via the internet at www.legislature.state.tn.us.
Should you plan to come to the House or Senate Galleries, doors are likely to close around 11:00 a.m. Cameras will be permitted but a security screening will be required (walking through magnetometers) for entry into the Capitol. Please do not bring any items that would cause any sort of security or safety concern. Parking will be an issue with limited handicap parking available in the perimeter of the Capitol and Legislative Plaza. Paid public parking is also available at the Nashville Public Library and lots along Church Street.
RNC CHAIRMAN – AN OPPORTUNITY
The election for Republican National Committee Chairman will be during the next RNC meeting, January 28th-30th. Tennessee has three voting members, as does each state, on the committee: a national committeeman, a national committeewoman and the state chairman. All three of the Tennessee RNC members have made the decision to receive input from Republicans in the state while participating in meetings and calls with the candidates directly.
On Monday, January 5, I was able to attend the first-ever debate for candidates for RNC Chairman at the National Press Club. The following day, 30-minute interviews were conducted with each of the candidates. These two events allowed an unscripted view of responses from each of the candidates on where they believe they can lead our party and on returning to the victory circle at the national level.
The Morton Blackwell Institute provided a survey to all of the RNC Chairman candidates. The responses are available online for your interests. After your review, if you have any additional thoughts or input on the candidates for RNC Chairman, please submit your input on our contact page.
