Devaney: Let the Democrats’ Dog and Pony Show Debate Begin (10-9-09)

Democrat Three-Ring Circus Never Wanted Ty Cobb to Debate Anyway

NASHVILLE, TN – Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney issued a statement on the State House District 62 race in which Republican Pat Marsh is squaring off against Democrat Ty Cobb. Devaney said today that Democrats have turned an honest attempt of holding an open town hall forum into a three-ring circus.

“It has been unclear from the beginning who actually has been running Ty Cobb’s campaign. The only thing clear is it isn’t Ty Cobb,” said Devaney. “During this election, Pat Marsh and his campaign have been dealing with calls, meetings and statements from Cobb’s campaign manager, Democrat Caucus Chairman Mike Turner and Tennessee Democrat Party Chairman Chip Forrester – all contradicting themselves and obviously stalling on a real debate. The Democrats have been nothing short of a three-ring circus.”

“The latest entertainment to be provided by this three-ring circus will be their dog and pony show debate on Saturday if they go through with it,” continued Devaney. “I can see it now – Ty standing on stage with his mouth shut while Chip Forrester gives pony rides and Mike Turner conducts dog tricks.”

Democrats have issued a number of misleading attacks against Republican candidate Pat Marsh. In fact, Pat Marsh has attended three town hall meetings in which Ty Cobb was invited, but refused to attend or offer any alternative times in which he would be able to make it. Pat Marsh also provided Ty Cobb’s campaign with three separate dates he would be available to debate and the Democrat Party leadership never responded. The latest attack comes just after Democrat Caucus Chairman Mike Turner – negotiating for the Cobb campaign – put forth a series of debate parameters without offering any reasonable compromises.
