NASHVILLE, TN – Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney issued the following statement after Brent Benedict resigned his candidacy for U.S. Representative in Tennessee’s Third Congressional District:

“With the news that Brent Benedict has decided to withdraw from the race, there is now not a Democrat running in the 3rd Congressional District. While it may seem remarkable to some, this seems to be a reflection of the growing trend across our state. Democrat Party leaders are pursuing fiscally reckless policies in an effort to grow the size of government, and that is not what Tennesseans want. This is why Democrats are having a hard time fielding a candidate in the 3rd District.”
