Devaney: Democrats Keep Spending, Taxpayers Keep Paying, & Jobs Are Still Nowhere to Be Found

NASHVILLE, TN – Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney issued the following statement after Tennessee Democrats voted in the U.S. House to raise America’s debt limit by $290 billion and passed another “stimulus” spending bill that will add an additional $154 billion to the national debt:

“Despite racking up a record deficit and taking a trillion dollars from American taxpayers for a so-called ’stimulus’ plan that’s proving to be a failure, Democrats demonstrated again today that their arrogance knows no bounds,” said Devaney. “In just one day they voted to increase America’s debt limit by $290 billion and then passed a bill to spend another $154 billion we don’t have. The bottom line: TN Democrats keep spending, taxpayers keep paying, and jobs are still nowhere to be found.”

“It’s days like today that show just how out-of-touch Tennessee Democrats are with voters. While all of our Tennessee Republican members stood up on behalf of their constituents and voted ‘no’ on both of these fiscally irresponsible bills, all five Tennessee Democrats put Speaker Pelosi above their districts and voted ‘yes’. With the Volunteer State facing 10.5 percent unemployment, Tennesseans are fed up and looking for real solutions that will help put them back to work – not more government spending that will leave our nation further in debt.”

Tennessee Republicans Marsha Blackburn, John Duncan, Phil Roe and Zach Wamp voted against raising the debt limit and the second “stimulus” bill. Tennessee Democrats Steve Cohen, Jim Cooper, Lincoln Davis, Bart Gordon and John Tanner voted in favor of both. View the debt limit vote tally here and the stimulus vote tally here.
