TNGOP Statement on Leader Mumpower’s Decision Not to Seek Re-Election
NASHVILLE, TN – Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney issued the following statement after State House Majority Leader Jason Mumpower announced he will not be seeking re-election this year:
“Jason has most-certainly made his mark by effectively representing the people of the 3rd district and this state,” said Devaney. “Over the years, he has promoted fiscally responsible, socially conservative policies that embody the principles of the Republican Party while also fighting big-government proposals such as a state income tax and a federal government takeover of health care.
“Jason’s work outside the Capitol has proven just as valuable as his work inside,” continued Devaney. “Without a doubt, the Republican success during the 2008 elections would not have been possible without the dedication and fortitude he exhibited on the campaign trail for our incumbent members and newly-recruited GOP candidates.
“I’d like to thank Jason for his leadership over the years, and thank his wife, Alicia, for all of her support. He has performed a great service to the people of his district and this state. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors and congratulate him on an extremely successful career in the General Assembly.”
