NASHVILLE, TN – The U.S. Department of the Treasury reported on their website today that as of June 1st, U.S. debt has surpassed $13 trillion.

“Today is a sad and frightening day for this country,” said Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney. “Democrats in Washington are out of control and this unprecedented debt demonstrates their disregard for voters’ concerns about runaway spending. Democrats continue spending money we don’t have at an alarming rate, forcing this nation further and further down a fiscally reckless path that has no end in sight. Enough is enough. We are drowning in a sea of red ink and this record debt should serve as a serious reminder to lawmakers at every level why we need to cut spending and limit government.”
