Bredesen Endorsement Won’t Help McWherter

NASHVILLE, TN – Today Democrat Governor Phil Bredesen endorsed Democrat gubernatorial candidate Mike McWherter, a move McWherter hopes will give a boost to his flailing campaign.

“Mike McWherter needs all the help he can get, but even Gov. Bredesen’s endorsement isn’t likely to do much for a candidate who, by recent polling, is shown to be trailing Republican candidates by a double digit margin,” said Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney. “Mike McWherter knows he cannot get elected on his own and is depending on his dad and Gov. Bredesen to gain voter support. Unfortunately for him, his dad’s name can only go so far and past elections show Gov. Bredesen lacks the coattails Mike McWherter is hoping he can ride into November. Voters across Tennessee are identifying with our Republican candidates and even with today’s endorsement, Mike McWherter has a very slim chance of becoming Tennessee’s next governor.”
